On the “Web Question of the Day”
Chemistry:
Final contribution to grade for first semester – your best quarter total goes into the semester “term” out of 15 points. That causes it to be reflected as 20% of the exam score. For the final grade then this is 20 % of 20% or 4 % in aggregate. Many earned significant extra credit by doing the Web question in the first semester while a few suffered a bit because of not.
Changes for second semester: Only two Web questions per week: Monday and Wednesday. A presentation in “lecture” format will follow on Tuesday and Thursday. Wednesday and Friday will be set aside for collaborative work (practice with partners) on the topic of the previous day. Monday will be a lab activity of video presentation. As not all weeks provide 5 55-minute periods, we will make adjustments where necessary.
In each quarter the Web questions will account for 10% of your quarter grade – no slack this time – if you can’t work from home use the school library or a public library – you’re individually accountable for this effort. Each quarter will offer 20 Web questions – a satisfactory (thoughtful, not necessarily correct) answer is required on 15 of them for a score of 100 % on this part of your grade.
Honors Physics
A question of the week is required – I’m looking for 7 answers out of 10 weeks. Each question of the week will ask you to read ahead in the text and to give a substantial answer to a question that may include several parts.
Regular Physics
Still no Web question – I do wish to include a Web component to our work and I would like to hear suggestions that would allow full participation of students in this class.
