The Bremen Community High School District 228 IMC has a lot of resources to for student research. Use the online databases to find things like magazine, journal, or encyclopedia articles.

Why the IMC instead of a search engine?

The IMC has chosen resources that are appropriate for high school students doing high school research. These databases will let you search by subject or keyword (like a search engine), will let you search from home (like a search engine), and will let print the articles (like a search engine). Even better than a search engine, the databases label all the resources so that they are easy for you to cite in your paper. You can easily tell who wrote it, what the title is, and when it was published. You can search for the right research that is relevant to your research. You spend more time learning, less time filtering out "Google noise."

Get the most from the resources

The librarians in the IMC are there to help you. They can help you choose the best databases for your research and show you how to use them efficiently and effectively. When in doubt, ask a librarian.

Access from school or off campus

You can use them from the school or from home. Passwords are required when not using District 228 computers. "Home Access" passwords are available in the IMC for all District students, parents, and staff.

Good resources for science research

Britannica Online School Edition

Good for background research about a topic. Example: Mr. K asks you to evaluate the current debates about carbon monoxide emissions and greenhouse gases, but you don't know much about greenhouse gases or their history. Use the encyclopedia to find out background information that will help you research the current debate.
